biography
Kasey is from Lincoln, Kansas where she was born and raised for 18 years. She went to Baker University in Baldwin City from 2005-2008 for a double BS in Physics and Mathematics.
Realizing her passion for creativity and problem solving, Kasey earned a MA in architecture at KU where she excelled at conceptual development, layout design, and sculptural elements.
To push boundaries and explore human interaction within built space, Kasey spent the last three years pursuing a MFA in Sculpture at KU. During that time, she taught collegiate sculpture courses and has become a regionally recognized public artist.
After graduating with honors in May 2015, Kasey moved to Portland, Oregon. She is working as a Scenic Project Coordinator for an internationally known live event company and currently building her own creative brand for her art.
Artist Statement
Trail systems and ever-transforming landscapes are the basis behind her art. Initially inspired by rock climbing, these public art pieces are both physical and intellectual puzzles – requiring the mind and body to communicate together in movement. Kinetic aspects of the work create a sense of navigation through landscape; like one would experience in the natural landscape. The artist designs one path to follow or “solve” for but there is an infinite number of combinations available, causing the art to look different every time it is interacted with.
Having such a diverse background allows Kasey to experiment with fusing science, art, and architecture together within her work. Recent pieces incorporate digital fabrication technology, enabling the generation of complex structures influenced by topographical forms.
